UTPB Men's Tennis improved to 10-8 on the season Friday afternoon with a 9-0 win over Howard Payne and a 5-4 victory over University of the Southwest at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas.
The Falcons success in doubles carried them to a one point win over the Mustangs as UTPB swept all three matches.
Alvaro Sifuentes and
Jaxon Immler took the #1 match with an 8-6 win, and
Adam Cheney and
Jonathan Rutledge also scored an 8-6 victory in #2 doubles.
Meliton Morales and
Justin Delgado wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at #3 doubles.
Cheney and Delgado won the team's two singles matches, Chaney winning 6-1, 6-2 at #4 singles and Delgado taking the win in #5 singles in three sets 4-6, 6-3 & 10-4.
The Falcons swept all nine matches against Howard Payne. Sifuentes/Immler went to a tiebreak at #1 doubles, winning 9-8 (8-6). UTPB had an easier time in the remaining matches in doubles with #2 Rutledge/Cheney winning 8-2 and #3 of Delgado/Morales winning 8-1.
Rutledge rebounded after dropping the first set in #1 singles, climbing back after a 3-6 loss to win the final two sets 6-4 & 10-7. Sifuentes dropped one game in a 6-0, 6-1 #2 win while Morales won in straight games in the opening set to win #3 6-0, 6-2. Cheney took #4 singles 6-1, 6-2 while Delgado swept in #5 6-0, 6-0, and
Edgar Lazcano dropped a game in each set to score a 6-1, 6-1 win in #6 singles.
