Football Plays first DI Opponent in Road Contest at Lamar

UT Permian Basin football faced off against its first ever division 1 opponent Saturday night, traveling to Beaumont, Texas for a non-conference game against FCS-level Lamar in a 72-6 Lamar victory.

UTPB scored on its second drive of the game, taking possession at its own 47-yard line. A 39-yard pass down the field to Jake Anglin by Caden Coots drove the Falcons to the Lamar 14, and two plays later Brandon Infiesto rushed 10 yards to the Lamar 3. Coots punched in the ball on the ground from three-yards out for the touchdown to give UTPB an early 6-3 lead over the host Cardinals.

Alonso Corral led the Falcons with 53 yards on the ground on 11 carries. Brandon Infiesto added 35 yards on eight carries.

Jake Anglin had 49 receiving yards on a pair of catches on the night.

Keegan Gray led the UTPB defense with 16 total tackles, 7 solo and 9 assists with a pair of tackles for loss and two tackle for loss assists.

The Falcons kick off Lone Star Conference play next week, traveling to Canyon, Texas, for a road contest at West Texas A&M.
